Every piece of writing deserves to be proofread as this is how we remove grammatical errors that escape us whilst writing. However, if you’re focused exclusively on what grammatical errors are appearing in your work, then you’re likely stressing too much to focus on the work itself.
That is where a good Proofreader comes into play.
“No one is useless in this world who lightens the burden of another.”
Noticing spelling mistakes in what I read is something that I have done for as long as I can remember, which, as reading is one of my main pleasures, takes up a significant part of my memory. As a result, I completed a Bachelor of Arts in English and Criminology at the University of Auckland and followed it up with a Diploma of Editing specialising in Proofreading.
Having been as fond of the written word as I am, for as long as I have been, I am familiar with both British and American English Spellings, as well as some of the more dialectal variants.
Grammar is a universal constant; in order for our words to be understood successfully by our audience, we need to have rules to follow. In checking those rules, and making sure homonyms haven’t slipped in, is where a Proofreader is most valuable.
